Our coalition of partners are helping us open doors across industries and sectors. Collective action is the driving force for long-term change in Southwark, and these organisations are going above and beyond to change things for young people in the borough of Southwark. They are responsible for programme governance, development, and direction.

United St Saviour’s Charity

United St Saviour's

United St Saviour’s Charity (UStSC) is a longstanding, Southwark-based charity with roots back to 1541. We provide housing for people in our almshouses, own a portfolio of commercial properties, and provide grants to local groups to promote a thriving, equal and united Southwark.

As one of the largest independent funders in Southwark, we have awarded over £4m over the past five years to hundreds of different groups. And during the national lockdowns we ran the Southwark Community Response Fund which – with funding from a range of other local funders – gave out £700k to support local people through the pandemic.

Our almhouses include the beautiful 18th century Hopton’s Almshouse near Blackfriars Bridge and the award-winning Appleby Blue which opened in summer 2023.

We were a founder member of One Southwark and host the programme. We believe that One Southwark will contribute towards our vision of a united, thriving and equal Southwark.

Norton Rose Fulbright

Norton Rose Fulbright

Norton Rose Fulbright is a global law firm, providing the world’s preeminent corporations and financial institutions with a full business law service. We have more than 3,700 lawyers and other legal staff based in Europe, the United States, Canada, Latin America, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Africa.

The firm’s London office joined the coalition as a founding member, with a passion to improve the socio-economic status of young people in Southwark.

We understand that barriers to entry for professional services exist for those from under-represented backgrounds, and we want to contribute to eradicating those barriers through agile programmes that demystify ideas of professional working environments.

We have enjoyed contributing to the programme from its inception, including our involvement in the recruitment of the programme’s employees. Since then, we have engaged in mentoring, ad-hoc skills support, IT equipment donations and hosting and providing volunteers for the “Connecting” session in our London office. We continue to use our resources and the skills of our people to support the programme.

Our contributions to the programme continues to adapt and change to its needs and we look forward to collaborating with the Coalition and supporting the One Southwark team throughout the course of the programme as it develops.

The Sainsbury Family Charitable Trust

Alan & Babette Sainsbury Charitable Fund (ABS) is the oldest Trust set up by the Sainsbury Family. Our funding priorities are young People in Southwark; Refugee led organisations; Holocaust education and dialogue and International grants addressing climate change.

Increasingly, ABS is collaborating with other donors to reach grassroots groups with lived experience of the issues they address –groups who often do not have the resources to fill in application forms or research potential donors.

We are delighted to be part of the One Southwark collaboration because it harnesses much more than funding. By joining forces we share skills and experiences of communities, businesses and grant-makers to end poverty and challenge inequality within Southwark. ABS could not do this alone – so the collaboration enables us to be more impactful.

Apart from financial support, our role within One Southwark is to bring its expertise in programme design, evaluation and critical thinking to challenge ourselves and our partners to think beyond conventional approaches. ABS also recognises the resilience knowledge and resources of marginalised young people and aims to bring their skills and experiences in shaping any intervention.

One Southwark is testing how we can effect long term structural change – ending poverty for a generation of young people in Southwark. The learning and experiences from this collaboration will inform our approach in other areas of tackling inequality.

Southwark Council

Southwark Council

The London Borough of Southwark is divided into 23 wards, with each ward electing two or three councillors to the council’s Council Assembly.
The council has created a vision that commits to a Fairer Future for every resident; protecting the most vulnerable, spending budget wisely, innovating and improving public services, working with businesses and local people and unlocking the potential of the borough.

The council supports the One Southwark vision of a united and thriving Southwark, with strong, inclusive and equal communities. The council recognises that One Southwark presents a great opportunity to work with other funders, businesses and communities by sharing knowledge and a shared ambition of what needs to change, to make better use of local expertise and resources.

Southwark will contribute to the programme through active engagement and is able to support with communications, brokering and other forms of help, including political support, leadership and strategic planning.

The council shares the One Southwark ambition of creating a fairer and more equal borough. The council will continue to enable and lead change in the borough and One Southwark provides an opportunity to strengthen relationships and learn with partners.

Merchant Taylors Foundation

The Merchant Taylors’ Foundation is the charitable arm of the Merchant Taylors’ Company, a City of London livery company which is a flourishing community dedicated to fraternity, education and philanthropy.

The Foundation improves lives:

  • in inner London, with a particular focus on Lewisham and Southwark, through grant-making to help people overcome challenges in their lives
  • throughout England and Northern Ireland through its funding of education

We’re delighted to be funding the work of One Southwark’s learning partner.

Three things attracted us to One Southwark.

It’s about levelling the playing field for young people who are motivated to move on in their lives. And that chimes with the Foundation’s value of changing lives for good.

It’s about giving young people the know how and contacts, and we can provide that through the membership community of the Merchant Taylors’ Company.

It’s about testing a model to be replicated elsewhere, potentially benefitting an even wider circle. And that’s also the Foundation’s ethos.

Peabody

Peabody is a leading housing provider in London and the Southeast, offering services to 155,000 residents and 16,000 care and support customers. Our mission is to build communities that are healthier, wealthier, and happier by supporting those in need and collaborating with people and organisations. One of the key elements of our mission is the creation of Local Area Plan teams that develop and implement area-based interventions to address local needs.

Our Southwark Local Area Plan focuses on improving the quality of life for residents by promoting physical and mental health, increasing income, building engaged and active communities, and fostering skill development. We work in partnership with local organisations to create meaningful projects and programs that help residents overcome challenges.

The One Southwark Programme is a key component of our community efforts, as it aligns with our strategy to support young people in Southwark. Our team focuses on activating partnerships to develop high-quality social interventions that respond to the needs of young people. Being part of the One Southwark coalition allows us to collaborate with like-minded organisations, share resources, and exchange knowledge and experience to better deliver services that meet the needs of the community.

As a founding member of One Southwark, we are committed to contributing to the growth and development of the program. We support the delivery of the program by deploying resources in line with priorities and aims, contributing knowledge, contacts, networks, and influence, and providing financial investment to support the delivery of the program and unlock other opportunities.

Through One Southwark, we gain valuable insights into the community’s challenges and needs, allowing us to better design collaborative programs that address the realities of Southwark’s residents. We are proud to be part of this innovative program, which helps us fulfil our responsibility to build a wealthier, healthier, and happier Southwark.
